Open Distance Learning: Nursing Programmes

Nursing Programmes

The North-West University is a value-driven institution that embraces different perspectives in order to promote a suitable environment for teaching and learning, research and community service. As this programme progressively gears towards Open Distance Learning, students can benefit from technology and enjoy various delivery modes according to various information technology infrastructures.

This programme offers you an opportunity to:

  • receive career-orientated education;
  • relevant curricula that address current health system issues;
  • study and study support while you work;
  • accelerate your career;
  • set the pace according to your unique circumstances;
  • a network of study centers, nationally and abroad;
  • recognition of prior learning (RPL);
  • affordable, convenient accessible learning programmes; and
  • progressively developing an e-learning infrastructure with a virtual learning environment.

The School of Nursing Science of the North-West University (Potchefstroom campus) offered post-basic nursing programmes through distance learning at study centres across South Africa since 1997. From humble beginnings with 5 study centres, the programme has grown to a current 33. Contact sessions on Saturdays provide students with support through facilitators and group discussions. Not only does the programme reach out to students, but it also empowers facilitators with the latest knowledge in different fields of study.

This intensive learning programme has ensured success for many students. During the semester, students submit assignments, write tests and examination for summative and formative evaluation. The quality academic content, dedication of facilitators and students and providing a training solution to adult students have resulted in an average pass rate of 70%.
