All the candidates who follow these programmes are students of the NWU and are subjected to the same benefits and responsibilities, economically and otherwise. These programmes will, however, also by offered at various other theological institutions with which the Faculty of Theology has Service Level Agreements. These agreements are also honoured by the Unit for Distance Learning.

 

 

BTh in Christian Ministry (3DG H01)

This programme is a basic introduction to and overview of Christian Theology, which equips students for ecclesiastical ministry in a multicultural context. The student will be able to do valid interpretation and application of the Bible (with tools). The student will also be equipped for pastoral counselling and will be able to think and act in an ethical manner, be value driven, and engaged in community development.

Purpose of programme - General training to equip pastors for ministry. The programme is presented from a Reformed as well as a Pentecostal perspective.

Admission

The requirement for the BTh qualification is a Senior Certificate that complies with the minimum statutory matriculation requirements for admission to a bachelor's degree and an APS score of 24 or higher.

Duration - The minimum study period for this qualification is 3 years of study. The maximum period is 6 years. In extraordinary cases, students can apply for an extension of the study period.

Method of Delivery

Distance:

The Faculty of Theology is utilizing a blended learning method of delivery for the BTh in Christian Ministry qualification. The lecturers have developed online modules to enable self-directed learning on the side of the student. That means that the student works on his/her own and communicates with the lecturer and submits all the assignments online on our electronic platform (eFundi). Students write exams at exam centres close (usually) to them.

It is important to note that a person should be in possession of a computer and have good access to internet if he/she would like to do distance studies. It is also the student's responsibility to find the books that are needed.

Bachelor of Divinity (BDiv)

Overview

Programme name: BDiv 3BD K01

This programme prepares ministers for ecclesiastical ministry in the reformed churches. The student will be able to do valid interpretation and application of the Bible. The student will also be equipped for pastoral counselling and will be able to think and act in an ethical manner, be value driven, and engaged in community development.

Purpose of programme - Specific training for pastors in the Reformed Churches as it has the required languages included.

Admission

Applicants must adhere to the minimum statutory requirements for B-degree studies at a university in SA. English level 4 (50-59%) and an APS score of at least 24.

Duration - The minimu study period for this qualification is 4 years of study. The maximum period is 8 years. In extraordinary cases, students can apply for an extension of the study period.
