The Invigilator - FAQs for distance and part-time students

1.  Is the installation of the Invigilator App compulsory for NWU distance learning and part-time students during the June 2025 exams?

Yes, the Invigilator App is mandatory for all distance learning and part-time students during the June 2025 exams at designated centres.
Students must:

  • Have a smartphone with a camera, internet access, and app store functionality.
  • Ensure that your phone is optimally charged.
  • Complete mandatory onboarding training via a prerecorded video.
  • Download and install the Invigilator App as soon as possible, before the exam.
  • Identity verification will be required (Hall Ticket and South African ID, or Drivers Licence).

Failure to comply may result in exclusion from the exam.

2.  Where will I find the instructions for The Invigilator App

The instructions for downloading, installing, and meeting additional requirements were shared with you in a pre-recorded video sent to your studentnumber@mynwu email.

A Student Training Document and Student User Guide were also shared via sms and your @mynwu email.  

3.  Can I write at any exam center other than the one I registered for?

No, you MUST write at the exam centre selected on the SIS portal. Personal timetables with venue details will be available one week before the exam.

4.  What happens when there is loadshedding when I have to submit the paper?

The Invigilator App will store your submitted answer script. Once the power/internet connection is restored, you will be able to access the Invigilator App to submit your script.

5.  Are cellphones allowed in exam venues?

Yes, you are allowed to bring your phone with you. It must be switched off and placed face down on the floor next to your desk, and will only be used for scanning and submitting your answer script via the Invigilator App.
