Advanced Certificate in Teaching (ACT) Programme Information
The Advanced Certificate in Teaching (NQF 6) is intended to promote specialised academic and professional studies in education. The programme carries 121 credits. The Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training realised that many teachers need more subject knowledge or want to change their direction or specialisation and/or teach a new subject or phase. The ACT was developed to fulfil that role. The ACT is primarily vocationally oriented, and the aim with the qualification is that teachers strengthen their subject knowledge or prepare themselves to teach a new subject. The ACT qualification is consequently based on the four school phases: Foundation Phase, Intermediate Phase, Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Phase. The UDL at the NWU currently offers the Advanced Certificate in Foundation Phase Teaching (ACFPT), the Advanced Certificate in Intermediate Phase Teaching (ACIPT), and the Advanced Certificate in Senior Phase Teaching (ACSPT) and the Advanced Certificate in Further Education and Training (ACFETT). The ACFPT programme (4BL F02 ) has a set curriculum and students cannot choose a specialisation. Students choosing to apply for the ACIPT (paper-based) can choose any two of the following subjects: Please note that the Advanced Certificates in Senior Phase Teaching (ACSPT) and Further Education and Training Teaching (ACFETT) are offered online. Students enrolling for the ACSPT or ACFETT will, therefore, be required to access their study material online and submit various assignments online via e-Fundi. It is important that prospective ACSPT and ACFETT students have sufficient access to internet and devices such as laptops and PCs. Students choosing to apply for ACSPT must choose one of the following subjects: Students choosing to apply for ACFETT must choose one of the following subjects: All registered students have access to electronic learning platform, eFundi (sign in with your student number). Academic information is shared on dedicated module sites.
